Figuring Out If Its Time for AC Repair or Replacement

As a homeowner, one of the difficult decisions, you’ll have to make is concluding whether your system is in longing of an AC repair or if it’s time for a replacement system. A new AC is a big investment, but so is the cost of continually repairing a system that needs replacement. There are a few signs that it may be time to pause repairing and look into replacing.

  1. The Age of Your System
If your air conditioner is between 10-15 years old, it’s probably time to start looking into a replacement system. An AC created today will be highly energy efficient, which will save you money in the long run and you won’t have to fret about being left to sweat it out during those hot summer months.
  2. Frequent Breakdowns
Unusual repairs may occur, but if your air conditioner is breaking down multiple times a season, it’s probably time to start looking into a replacement. The money you’re putting into your aged system could be used to invest in a new, high-efficiency system.
  3. Your Energy Bills are Rising
If you’ve seen your bills getting higher and higher without running your system more often, this could be a sign your AC is on its final lap. Look at your bill and measure your energy usage this year to last year. A high increase in your consumption could be a sign that it’s time for a modern system. As systems age, they have to task harder and that requires more energy.
  4. Your Home is Uncomfortable
You’ll notice this issue right away. If your system is having trouble maintaining a comfortable temperature, it could be a hint that your AC needs repair or replacement. It could also mean that your system is the wrong size for your home.
